Biryani is a traditional South Asian dish that is made by cooking flavorful rice with meat, vegetables, and spices. Biryani Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups Basmati rice
  • 1 lb boneless chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 cup frozen green peas
  • 1 large carrot, diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

Biryani Instructions & Preparation

  1. Rinse the rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes. Drain the rice and set it aside.
  2. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the chopped tomatoes, frozen green peas, diced carrot, red and green bell peppers to the pot and cook until the vegetables are soft, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the chicken to the pot and cook until it is no longer pink, about 8-10 minutes.
  5. Add the drained rice to the pot, along with the chicken broth, yogurt, cumin, coriander, turmeric, garam masala, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  6. Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid and reduce the heat to low. Simmer the Biryani for 20-25 minutes, or until the rice is fully cooked and the liquid has been absorbed.
  7. Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with fresh cilantro. Serve the Biryani hot.

Approximately 45-50 minutes, making it a relatively quick and easy dish to prepare.
